AURAI Swimwear

AURAI is a young sustainable swimwear brand based in Auckland, New Zealand that is propped up by an intimate flair with surf and beach culture, created by italo-brazilian designer Natalia Bertolo. AURAI started out as an old dream that after many years, mood boards, fabric samples, patterns and kilometres around the world has become a beautiful reality. Natalia grew up in Brazil, after graduating from university and starting her career she decided to move to Milan, where she pursued a Master’s Degree in Fashion Management. Inspired by her eco design studies and the slow fashion movement, Natalia’s design philosophy includes a commitment to produce high quality swimwear for a desirable and durable summer wardrobe. In recognition of her talent, Natalia has received many awards over the years including the Fashion Category of the International Talents Design Competition for her commitment to sustainable design.

The first AURAI collection experimented with fish leather, a material discarded by the food industry that often ends up polluting rivers and lakes, the perfect bikini for true mermaids, in addition fabric made with a mix of polyamide and elastane is used. Every AURAI collection aims to reflect the essence of a carefree, fun and healthy lifestyle, featuring high quality materials, a timeless colour palette, exclusive prints and as durable as possible to prolong lifespan and postpone discard. Almost all AURAI pieces feature functional design, such as reversible options and customizable ties and collections are lovingly handmade in Natalia’s hometown in southern Brazil, where she locally sources all the materials.

All garments are designed with consideration given to aesthetic aspects alongs with a mix and match concept to allow plenty of combinations among the collection pieces as well as the pieces women already have in their wardrobe. The use of digital print allows beautiful patterns to be printed in small quantities without using water or harmful chemicals. Packaging comes as a reusable drawstring mini bag made of 100% cotton towel fabric and a box made from 100% recycled paper.
