Brothers We Stand

Jonathan Mitchell the socially conscious entrepreneur behind Brothers We Stand (BWS), an online mens retailer he founded with the mission to provide an alternative online destination for ethical consumers who are seeking an alternative to the fast fashion brands with questionable business practices. In 2013 London based Jonathan received funding from The Princes’ Trust to develop his vision and shortly after was named by 2Degrees as one of 2014’s Top 25 under 25 working in sustainable business.

BWS are focused on curation and committed to only working with the most sustainable brands, in addition they have an in house collection catering to menswear basics, tees are made in a wind-powered factory from organic cotton and their sweatshirts are made from recycled plastic bottles. At BWS there is a guideline on which they base their product selection and these are rooted in three key areas – design, quality and stand-out ethics. To join their curated online collection, brands must produce products with a positive environmental and social impact setting them apart from the mainstream. For example this could be a bag that is handmade by Bolivian artisans working in family based groups or a tee made in a wind powered factory with a carbon footprint 90% lower than that of a regular tee.

Jonathan firmly believes a valued contribution towards addressing some of society’s biggest problems can be made by the sustainable business practices adopted by BWS. He says “I’m convinced that it is entirely possible to create brilliant products in a way that respects both people and planet. There’s no reason why the next Apple can’t be built on sustainable principles. In fact, that’s exactly what the world needs right now. Brothers We Stand seeks to show what is possible, and I ask people to get right behind us. Together we can show that a sustainable future is achievable”.
