Rainforest Ecolodge – Chalets
The Ecolodge consists of 16 Chalets in the Sinharaja Rainforest, Sri Lanka and each chalet is designed with an unparalleled level of sustainability using recycled materials.
Renowned hotelier Prema Cooray is Chairman of Rainforest Ecolodge which opened to the public in January 2012. The story of Rainforest Ecolodge began back in 2000 when USAID launched The Competitive Initiative (TCI) along with some key hoteliers to make Sri Lanka more competitive and enhance its tourism potential. In 2002 a 500 acre site in Sinharaja bordering the Southern Provinces of Sri Lanka was selected for the Ecolodge, responsibility for taking this initiative forward to completion was given to the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce who ensured that construction consisted of eco-friendly materials with minimal disturbance to the surrounding environment.
