Sustainable accessories brand Sealand Gear based in South Africa, was founded by entrepreneurs Jasper Eales and Mike Schlebach. Jasper is the creative mind behind the brand and had a practical approach from the word go. Mike has been recognised for his meaningful contribution to business and the world of up-cycling within SA and is also known as one of the country’s best big wave surfers. The brand is based around up-cycling which is essentially creating a usable product from waste and unwanted items or adapting an existing product in some way that is useful or creative whilst adding value. Reducing waste and improving the efficiency of resource use are the main purpose of up-cycling and it benefits the environment by promoting reuse over discarding items and keeping them away from landfills. Sealand works with four main sources of waste material that are all strong and durable which include, truck tarp, advertising billboard mesh, stretch tent material and old sail cloth. These materials are used to develop a range of products in a totally new context so bringing new life to old materials creating a range of stylish, durable, strong and sustainable accessories.
