Kaleidoscope Beauty – Shaba Collection
The elegant Shaba Collection brings a contemporary twist to brasswork and would be ideal for that special evening out.
Made in Kenya by local artisans
UK based statement jewelry brand Kaleidoscope Beauty takes its roots and inspiration from African culture and traditions. Founded by conscious and creative entrepreneur Umutoni Thuku-Benzinge, who, given her East African roots, made it the brand’s purpose to drive societal change in sub-Saharan Africa starting with Kenya. Having spent multiple summers in Kenya, Londoner Umutomi wanted to find a way to pay a tribute to her home continent in some way.
In recent years, there has been a spike of interest and global demand towards African design, with examples spanning from high fashion runways, such as Oswald Boateng’s Africanism line, to Hollywood costume designs in films such as Black Panther. Kaleidoscope Beauty carries several lines of jewelry and accessories, all of them assembled sustainably by their artisans. Core materials used include brass, glass beads leather and wire.
“Kaleidoscope Beauty’s mission is to empower the disenfranchised with particular focus on the youth community. Our artisans are talented young men and women, faced with the burden of multi-generational poverty, lack of sanitation and the harsh realities of life in the slums. Given the right tools, and an opportunity for a career, the artisans are trained in beadwork and brass-work which in turn creates job opportunities for them and a sustainable source of income” – says Umutoni Thuku-Benzinge, Founder of Kaleidoscope Beauty
Inspired by traditional Kiswahili names, Kaleidoscope Beauty currently carries four design collections, catering to fashionistas and style-makers of all kinds.
